The Woking Tripod

Woking is a burrough in the southeastern English county of Surrey. It is also the first place the invading Martians land in the H.G. Wells classic War of the Worlds.
To celebrate this momentous part of science fiction history, a large replica/statue of the Martian Tripod (as envisioned by author Wells) was erected in the town square in 1998 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the novel.
Standing 23 feet tall, the awesome sculpture/statue was designed and constructed by Michael Condron. Pictures probably can't do it justice but it does look phenomenal!
