Swamp Thing
This is a treat my little ghoul-fiends! I skipped across this on the 'net and was waiting for a day like today to throw this out there to the blog-wolves. A little different but still very, very cool.
Waaaay back in 2002, all 8 pages of original art for the very first Swamp Thing story sold at auction. Now, this is not the exact same character you might be familiar with but sort of a proto-Swamp Thing. As you read the story you may notice the character's name is Alex Holland, not Alec Holland. In fact this version of Swamp Thing was retconned into the Alan Moore version of Swampy as one of the earlier plant elementals.
Frankly I never found Swamp Thing as interesting as in those early Berni Wrightson and Len Wein days (no offense to Alan Moore but he turned the character into something else entirely). After Alan Moore the horror aspect was diminished (at least in my mind) and I lost interest. Swamp Thing always worked best as a horror-themed character and was never written or illustrated better than the duo of Len Wein and Berni Wrightson. Do yourself a favor on these pages and actually look at the artwork: it is absolutely phenomenal. It's difficult to sometimes see the actual art with the color but this is a story I believe works almost better without it. Very, very moody and atmospheric.
Anyway, long-winded introduction aside, these are the actual 8 pages of original artwork for the story, culled from the Heritage Auctions website.

Swamp Thing (1982)

Vampire Batman pt. 2
It seems only natural to mix the supernatural aspect of bats with the Batman character. Indeed he preys upon the superstitious and cowardly fear most criminals harbor deep in their psyche. And when you throw in the bat association with the dark bloodsucking vampires of the night, well....
Kelley Jones may have detractors over his version of Batman. But one thing is always certain: his Batman is creepy as hell! Nowhere is this more evident than in the spectacular Elseworld's trilogy of bat-horrors Red Rain, Bloodstorm and Crimson Mist.
The second in the trilogy, Bloodstorm, saw Batman fall further under the vampiric spell and succumb completely to the undead curse. It also introduced a creepy/sexy were-cat version of Catwoman.
Unfortunately the poor soul of the Batman couldn't rest totally and he was revived from the dead (as usually happens in horror movies) for the third installment Crimson Mist.
Frankly, if anyone remotely pays attention to this blog (anyone of real creative clout within the DC-universe), I would push...shove, perhaps...the animators at Warner Bros. to put a DVD/Blu-Ray version of this Batman mythos under the gun for a release in October of next year.
And if anyone at Eidos is paying attention, a full-on first-person fighter for the PS3, XBox 360 and other consoles shouldn't be out of the question either! Heck, I'd settle for an unlockable player costume.
