I have to admit I've been decidedly underwhelmed by the advertising and promotion Disney provided for John Carter. As excited as I am by the idea of Edgar Rice Burroughs' tale adapted for the big screen (by the same guy who wrote/directed/creatively contributed to most of Pixar's hit films)...well, Disney may have dropped the ball on this one, folks. But it is getting uniformly positive word of mouth via Twitter and Facebook, so there is hope after all.
And then there is this trailer, made by the fine fine people over at thejohncarterfiles.com. Now this looks pretty impressive.
For my part I'm doing what I can to promote this movie among my friends, among strangers and among whomever is reading this blog!
Or...almostJohn Carter of Mars.
If animator Bob Clampett and Edgar Rice Burroughs nephew John Coleman Burroughs had had their way, we would have seen a full-length John Carter of Mars animated feature nearly 4 years before the Fleischer Superman shorts and almost 2 years before Disney would premiere Snow White as the first full-length animated feature.
Alas, it wasn't to be. Fortunately we do have the work done to pitch the idea. And it is amazing.
Next year we evidently get a big screen adaptation brought to life by the same people that brought you the absolutely wonderful Wall-E. It better be good.
